Blue Mountains & Capertee Valley Private 2-Day Tour

Explore far beyond the familiar lookouts of the Blue Mountains on a private two-day journey into the remote sandstone landscapes west of Sydney.

While our Blue Mountains Private Day Tour focuses on the dramatic escarpments near Katoomba and the upper Blue Mountains plateau, this extended experience continues deeper into the region’s less-visited landscapes.

Travelling beyond the main plateau reveals the immense Capertee Valley, the sculpted pagoda formations of the Gardens of Stone landscape, and the remarkable granite tors rising above farmland at Evans Crown.

Spending two days in the region allows time to walk, explore and understand these landscapes properly — travelling at a relaxed pace with your own private guide rather than rushing through them in a single day.

Why Spend Two Days Here

Many of the landscapes west of the Blue Mountains escarpment are simply too far away to experience comfortably on a single day trip from Sydney.

Staying overnight allows time to explore the remarkable Capertee Valley, walk among the pagoda formations of the Gardens of Stone, and visit the extraordinary granite tors at Evans Crown.

Rather than rushing between viewpoints, the two-day pace allows time for scenic walks, quiet lookouts and small historic towns along the way.

Landscapes Beyond the Escarpment

The journey reveals several geological environments rarely experienced together on one tour.

Blue Mountains Escarpments
The dramatic sandstone cliffs and forested valleys of the World Heritage Blue Mountains, where layered ridgelines fade into the region’s distinctive blue haze.

Capertee Valley
A vast canyon landscape carved into sandstone plateaus and mesas. The Capertee Valley is wider than the Grand Canyon in places and remains one of the most overlooked landscapes in New South Wales.

Gardens of Stone Country
An extraordinary terrain of sculpted sandstone “pagodas” — stacked rock formations shaped by erosion into towers, domes and ridges.

Granite Tors at Evans Crown
Massive rounded boulders rising above the surrounding countryside, formed deepunderground and gradually exposed over millions of years.

Together these landscapes reveal the remarkable geological diversity of the Blue Mountains region beyond the usual viewpoints.

A Typical Two-Day Journey

Every tour is adaptable, but the following outline shows the natural rhythm of the experience.

Day One — Blue Mountains to the Capertee Valley

We leave Sydney in the morning and travel into the Blue Mountains with scenic stops overlooking the Jamison and Megalong Valleys before continuing west into the Capertee region.

Possible stops include:

• Echo Point and the Three Sisters
• Pearson’s Lookout with views of Pantoneys Crown
• The historic shale-oil settlement of Glen Davis
• Dunns Swamp (Ganguddy) with its pagoda rock formations

The day concludes in the historic town of Rylestone or nearby Kandos, where we stay overnight.

Day Two — Evans Crown & Grose Valley

The second day begins with a walk to the remarkable granite formations at Evans Crown, where massive tors provide sweeping views across surrounding countryside.

Returning toward the Blue Mountains we explore additional lookouts overlooking the dramatic Grose Valley.

Stops may include:

• Govetts Leap lookout
• A scenic walk along the Grose Valley escarpment
• Lincoln Rock overlooking the Jamison Valley

From here we return to Sydney in the late afternoon.
